Overcoming social phobia

Everybody experiences an irrational and strong aversion or fear of a particular thing, individual, or situation. This condition is generally referred to as phobia. There are numerous types of phobia, and one of the most common is the social phobia. This type of phobic condition hinders some individuals from totally socializing or mingling with others.

It is quite innate for a person to feel shy or nervous when dealing with other people. While some are not self-conscious when speaking in front of a huge crowd, there are those who are literally afraid of doing so. Even having a simple conversion with peers is oftentimes a struggle for individuals who have social phobia.

Generally, people with social phobia have no problems interacting with close friends, relatives, and family members. However, intense self-consciousness and fear of rejection or embarrassment enter when these individuals meet new people who are outside their comfort zones.

Moreover, the case of social phobia focuses on an individual’s concerns and anxieties on their performance and image in their social circle. A normal person never has to spend so much time worrying about criticisms or how other people might see or judge them. But for those dealing with social phobia, they are always troubled and conscious on what others notice and feel about them.

Overcoming and dealing with social phobia

Just like other people with different types of phobia, individuals who are suffering from social stigma can definitely control and manage their fear and anxiety of being around or mingling with other people. Below are some ways on how one can overcome and deal with this type of phobia:

1. Get support from family and friends

It is extremely essential for those with social phobia to have support from the people who are very close to them - family and friends. These people can help strengthen one’s morale, thus, further encouraging that person to go out of his shell, socialize with others, and develop relationships outside his comfort zone.

2. Seek help from a therapist

Aside from family and friends, therapists are also the best ones to seek help from by those who have social phobia. These experts can help establish one’s self-esteem and confidence. They are also good at counseling and creating programs that can aid one in facing social concerns and fears. Although there are some therapists who prescribe medications to patients, majority of treatments only include social development programs or plans.

3. Maintain one’s willingness and commitment to become better

The success of overcoming and dealing with social phobia basically relies on the individual’s willingness and commitment to improve his phobic condition. Being patient is important since the process requires one to deal with his greatest fears on facing other people and becoming open to things that are not within his comfort zone.

As a social phobic continuous to seek improvement on his condition, he will eventually overcome his fears and become more and more comfortable dealing with new people, accepting criticisms, and welcoming things that are new to him.

Art theft most famous cases in history

Art theft is an ancient and complicated crime. When you look at the some of the most famous cases of art thefts in history, you see thoroughly planned operations that involve art dealers, art fakers, mobsters, ransoms, and millions of dollars. Here you can read about some of the most famous cases of art theft in the history.

The First Theft:

The first documented case of art theft was in 1473, when two panels of altarpiece of the Last Judgment by the Dutch painter Hans Memling were stolen. While the triptych was being transported by ship from the Netherlands to Florence, the ship was attacked by pirates who took it to the Gdansk cathedral in Poland. Nowadays, the piece is shown at the National Museum in Gdansk where it was recently moved from the Basilica of the Assumption.

The Most Famous Theft:

The most famous story of art theft involves one of the most famous paintings in the world and one of the most famous artists in history as a suspect. In the night of August 21, 1911, the Mona Lisa was stolen out of the Louver. Soon after, Pablo Picasso was arrested and questioned by the police, but was released quickly.

It took about two years until the mystery was solved by the Parisian police. It turned out that the 30Ч21 inch painting was taken by one of the museum employees by the name of Vincenzo Peruggia, who simply carried it hidden under his coat. Nevertheless, Peruggia did not work alone. The crime was carefully conducted by a notorious con man, Eduardo de Valfierno, who was sent by an art faker who intended to make copies and sell them as if they were the original painting.

While Yves Chaudron, the art faker, was busy creating copies for the famous masterpiece, Mona Lisa was still hidden at Peruggias apartment. After two years in which Peruggia did not hear from Chaudron, he tried to make the best out of his stolen good. Eventually, Peruggia was caught by the police while trying to sell the painting to an art dealer from Florence, Italy. The Mona Lisa was returned to the Louver in 1913.

The Biggest Theft in the USA:

The biggest art theft in United States took place at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. On the night of March 18, 1990, a group of thieves wearing police uniforms broke into the museum and took thirteen paintings whose collective value was estimated at around 300 million dollars. The thieves took two paintings and one print by Rembrandt, and works of Vermeer, Manet, Degas, Govaert Flinck, as well as a French and a Chinese artifact.

As of yet, none of the paintings have been found and the case is still unsolved. According to recent rumors, the FBI are investigating the possibility that the Boston Mob along with French art dealers are connected to the crime.

The Scream:

The painting by Edvard Munchs, The Scream, is probably the most sought after painting by art thieves in history. It has been stolen twice and was only recently recovered. In 1994, during the Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, The Scream was stolen from an Oslo gallery by two thieves who broke through an open window, set off the alarm and left a note saying: thanks for the poor security.

Three months later, the holders of the painting approached the Norwegian Government with an offer: 1 million dollars ransom for Edvard Munchs The Scream. The Government turned down the offer, but the Norwegian police collaborated with the British Police and the Getty Museum to organize a sting operation that brought back the painting to where it belongs.

Ten years later, The Scream was stolen again from the Munch Museum. This time, the robbers used a gun and took another of Munchs painting with them. While Museum officials waiting for the thieves to request ransom money, rumors claimed that both paintings were burned to conceal evidence. Eventually, the Norwegian police discovered the two paintings on August 31, 2006 but the facts on how they were recovered are not known yet.

Social phobia and the office environment

Everyone is afraid of something. This most fundamental, critical rule of human existence may be among the oldest reasons for the human need to socially interact. To a certain extent, it is arguable that all society is based on the foundation that we are playing off each other's fears. However, while it is normal for everyone to have fears, not everyone has a phobia. The phobia, which is essentially an unreasonable fear that is firmly rooted in a person's psychology, can sometimes be difficult to spot. In general, they don't so much affect a person's social and professional standing as other disorders might. Yet, there are some people that must deal with the prospect of having to face a phobia at work on a daily basis.

While the so-called “fear of work” has yet to actually be recognized by any concrete authority in the field of psychology, there are some genuine fears that can be found within the office environment. The most prominent and most crippling of these might be the fear of social interaction. Regardless of how ridiculous it might sound, the fear of interacting with other human beings on any basis – regular or otherwise – is something that is very real, and very damaging. It is people that have this particular phobia that might find in extreme discomfort on a daily basis when going to their workplace.

This problem has only recently been explored as a possibility by various authorities in the psychological field. Forcing someone to confront their fears, provided those fears are the regular sort, can be a positive experience. It allows them to overcome their fears and better adjust to situations where such things cannot be avoided. However, it is known that forcing someone to confront a phobia can result in far more damage than even the phobia itself. It might intensify the problem, resulting in some aspect of the person's professional life breaking down. It might also just drive home the problem, enforcing the perceptions that serve as the root of the problem itself.

One of the core issues of this situation is that a social phobia need not manifest in the ways people expect. A person may not show the overt signs of being uncomfortable around people, but people that are afraid of social interaction tend to act a little strangely, by most people's standards. It might manifest as little more than excessive blushing when the attention is directed towards them, or it might take the form of a general unwillingness to participate in the company's social events, like a Christmas party. People with a social phobia that are trapped in an office environment need not react in the dramatic manner that the general population expects them to. In most cases, aside from being slightly strange or antisocial (a mislabel), most casual observers would probably not suspect at all.

Since the condition can be extremely difficult to spot, it isn't surprising that a vast number of people don't get help or treatment. For some people, leaving a good job and prospective career is the only option they have for dealing with extreme cases of social anxiety. For others, they stay at work but never really develop any real relationships with their co-workers and develop a slight paranoia about being seen as “the weird one.”

Is the u. s. facing an impending water crisis

In Los Angeles, scientists have found that 60 million gallons of ground water in the local watershed contain the environmentally harmful metal, chromium 6. The contamination is moving in the direction of the city's main drinking water supply and could pose a major health problem within 10 years.

More than 50 percent of Pennsylvania's streams are polluted as a result of decades of coal mining operations. Drinking water in 39 of the state's 69 counties is affected.

In many municipalities in the United States, the infrastructure that conveys and sanitizes water is deemed inadequate. Miles of underground pipes have been corroding due to age, allowing lead into drinking water. Water treatment plants that were built at the turn of the 20th century to filter out particles and destroy bacteria regularly fail to remove pesticides, chemicals and other harmful materials.

Mercury, copper, chromium, arsenic, gasoline and ammonia-based perchlorate are showing up in increasing concentrations in the nation's water supply. Furthermore, surging population growth in states such as California, Texas and Florida have created severe water shortages.

Agriculture, too, is straining U. S. surface water and groundwater supplies. The groundwater that provides 31 percent of the water used to irrigate crops is depleted 160 percent faster than its recharge rate.

Experts agree that current technology provides limited solutions to the nation's water problem.

Desalination has proven effective in some areas, but the process of removing salt from seawater uses large amounts of energy. Pulsed-laser technology and bioremediation destroy only microbes, not metals and other toxic materials.

One promising technology is gray-water filtration, which sends ultra-clean drinking water to household faucets while diverting partially filtered water to washing machines, boilers and backyard pools. However, the process requires costly adaptations to residential plumbing.

According to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the solution to America's water problem lies in government and community activism.

Become aware of the side effects of tramadol

Tramadol is one popular example of an atypical opioid that basically works as an analgesic or pain reliever. This drug, which is known to be a synthetic or man-made form of analgesic, is prescribed to individuals who are experiencing moderate to severe pain condition. This type of medication was spearheaded by a known German pharmaceutical institution and was primarily introduced as Tramal. After a couple of years, the original developer of the said drug cross licensed it to other companies worldwide. Tramadol then was marketed under several brand names.

Tramadol's custom marketing packages are available in oral and injectable forms. It is considered a controlled form of drug in most countries such as Australia and the United States. This type of opioid requires prescription in the said two countries.

As stated earlier, Tramadol is one of the most commonly recommended medications to treat pain. Some health experts also recommend this drug as treatment to abate symptoms of anxiety and depression. In addition, this drug is also used by animal specialists to treat chronic and post-operative pain conditions experienced by cats and dogs.

Just like other medications, Tramadol also has side effects. A person should consult his doctor when the following side effects of Tramadol occur:

* weakness

* blurred vision

* sleep problems

* vomiting

* nausea

* loss of appetite

* constipation

* drowsiness

Those who experience the above mentioned side effects can still continue taking Tramadol, but doctor consultation is a must.

Consumers should immediately stop taking Tramadol and consult a doctor when the following side effects occur:

* weak pulse

* red blistering or peeling of the skin

* convulsion or seizure

* shallow breathing

Moreover, immediate medical attention is a must when allergic reactions such as swelling of the throat, tongue, lips, and face as well as difficulty in breathing occur.

Important info on Tramadol

Although Tramadol is a very popular type of analgesic, there are a number of important things that consumers need to know about Tramadol before considering to take them. The following are the most important facts that consumers should know about the said drug:

The science behind the torment

There is a rarely mentioned, supposedly nearly-extinct sect of Buddhism that believes in the words “perfection through pain.” The philosophy is not one most people would be keen to adapt, but it does take into account something that most people don't want to acknowledge. Pain is a part of life and it is not going to go away until life goes away. Most people, of course, are capable of enduring pain. The natural pain threshold and pain tolerance of people may differ from person to person, but old lore has always said that men had a lower tolerance for suffering and torment than women did. Most of these same stories point to childbirth as the primary evidence for this age-old hypothesis, though recent discoveries are starting to reveal that the opposite is true.

According to research conducted by the University of Washington, depending on the form of stimuli, men actually have a higher pain tolerance than women. The research went to great lengths to remove any preconceived cultural and social notions about pain and the ability to handle it. The point was to find a biological basis for some of the most commonly held ideas about the nature of pain and whether gender has an appreciable effect on pain. It is one of many studies focused on the nature and biology of pain, which is understandable when one considers just how little people know about it. Up until the 1960s, for example, the medical community was completely unaware that the brain can rewire the nervous system to respond to certain painful stimuli. That dispelled the long-held belief that the stimuli-nerve-reaction sequence of pain signals was set in stone.

The study published results that point to the possibility of men and women's bodies having different methods for processing and dealing with pain. There was also evidence that women also had an additional biological system in place that used estrogen as a key component. In one test that was conducted, it was found that women were more likely to complain from temperature-related pain than men at lower levels. One specific test subjected people to a heated surface, with all of the women feeling the pain at a colder temperature than the men. The results were consistent with other forms of tests. However, just because women have a lower pain threshold than men does not mean that they are more likely to succumb to pain.

According to the study, succumbing to pain is just as tightly linked to psychology as it is to biology. Culture and environment are just as likely to affect how someone handles pain as genetics and body build. For example, proper physical training can often help someone endure and overcome levels of pain that most individuals would not have been able to. In others, the social norms and demands of the culture they grew up in may psychologically force them to endure, even when the body is being pushed to the limits. The researchers sometimes commented that it was difficult to separate cultural and psychological factors from the results their tests gave them in the early stages of the study.

Despite the many answers that it opened up, it also posed a number of questions. It unraveled the possibility of hormonal factors being involved in pain and pain perception. The fact that estrogen levels seemed related to some painful stimuli also prompted a number of inquiries, as the exact effects of the estrogen (whether they dulled the pain or enhanced the sensation of it) were undetermined.

How to identify social anxiety in teens

Often regarded as the most unrecognized mental disorder in teens, social anxiety disorder can take many forms and manifest itself differently per person. Most parents and adults dismiss symptoms as merely shyness or teen angst that their children will eventually outgrow. However, social phobia, as the disorder is sometimes called, can grow worse if left untreated and be debilitating over time. Recognizing social phobia in teens is crucial for their transition to adulthood and you, as adults and parents, have the responsibility of ensuring that they get help. Here are several ways of recognizing symptoms of social phobia in teens:

1. Look out for extreme shyness or discomfort in your child when put in the center of attention.

First-time performers normally get stage fright but excessive discomfort, passivity, or inactivity when put on the spotlight should merit further investigation. Although most people will attribute this situation to most teenagers' fear of embarrassing themselves in front of their peers, do not be complacent. Talk to your child about why he or she was unable to perform. Just remember to avoid using an accusatory tone to prevent putting your child on the defensive.

2. Observe your child's academic performance.

When your straight-A child starts bringing home B or C-graded homework and exams, you immediately worry that something is wrong. But social phobia is not that obvious. In fact, social phobia leaves little clues like hesitance to recite in class, fear of being asked to report, or even downright refusing to be part of class activities. If possible, talk to your child's teacher about these matters and ask him or her to inform you if your child exhibits these behaviors.

3. Keep track of your child's friends or lack thereof.

You know it; teens will spend hours on the phone, go to parties, or hang out after school. Most teens will be part of a large group or at least have a couple of friends. But teens with social phobia often isolate themselves from other people or minimize contact. They would rather attend class without homework than ask a classmate about it. They often have trouble making eye contact, initiating or joining conversations, and being part of school organizations.

4. Check your child's confidence level.

Most teens suffering from social phobia often doubt if they are good enough for other people or worry excessively about how others see them. Their fear of being ridiculed, boring, or rejected are basic in their minds and they often look for signs of negative perception in others. This negative attitude towards meeting other people are so pervasive in their minds that it can lead to low self-esteem and inferiority complex.

5. Take note of your child's reaction to social situations.

People suffering from social phobia exhibit physical symptoms as well, especially if they are in a social situation like family gatherings or school functions. Signs to look out for include diarrhea, nausea, excessive sweating, heart palpitations, and shortness of breath. If your teen experiences any of these symptoms during or prior to a social event, he or she may be reacting to social phobia.

If your teen exhibit all or any of these symptoms, take him or her to a psychologist for a consultation and thorough examination. Chances are high that your child knows that his or her reactions to social activities are irrational but does not know where to ask for help.

Dealing with loss teaching your children about life and death

At some point or another you and your children will be faced with death.

It’s important that you teach your children that death is merely an aspect of life, and help them become comfortable with the topic.

One of the best things you can do to prepare your children for the prospect of a death is to talk about it with them ahead of time.

Your approach to the subject may vary a little depending on your spiritual beliefs. Some cultures actually embrace the subject of death and see it as an opportunity for re-birth and new life.

It is important that you consider your spiritual and emotional beliefs about death and come to fully embrace them before approaching the topic with your children.

This will help you facilitate a more impacting and clear cut conversation when the time arises to talk about death and dying.

Here are some suggestions for broaching the topic with your children:

Talk With Your Children About the Cycle of Life – Consider discussing death with them at a time that you can naturally incorporate it into part of your conversation. Consider for example when the leaves change colors in the fall, and then die off only to grow back in the spring. Remember to keep things light and easy initially, offering your children ample opportunities to ask questions.

Acknowledge Your Own Feelings – In order for your children to accept death you must first come to terms with it. Children are very sensitive and likely to pick up on your emotional cues about death and dying, thus if you are uncomfortable with the subject they are likely to be too. Take some time to examine your own feelings and become comfortable with the subject before broaching it with your children.

Be Open and Honest About Feelings – Many parents have a natural instinct to shield their children from the grief associated with death, but this can actually be damaging. It is important that you allow your children to understand that death can be sad, and let them know that you are sad if it happens. It is important that children learn to express themselves openly and honesty and learn how to release their emotions when necessary.

Remember when teaching children about death and dying that their initial reactions may be very different from what you would expect.

Rather than focusing on the spiritual or emotional aspects of death they may want to know more about the technicalities, such as how someone is buried and where they go.

Remember that this is perfectly normal. Address each question honestly and age appropriately when they surface, and your children will come to have a healthy understanding of the death and dying process.

The psychological fallout of acne

Acne, whether the common teenage variety or the rarer adult variety, is one among several types of skin infections that could produce serious skin blemishes and aesthetically undesirable consequences. Aside from the obvious physical markings that come with the onset of the acne, there is also the possibility that the breakout would leave scars on the face. While only adult acne and a select few skin infections leave scars, these marks are often difficult and costly to remove. Facial scars due to acne can have serious mental and social implications. Acne and skin infections can have mental health side effects that can be more serious than the infection itself since skin problems often have an effect on a person's self-esteem.

A temporary bout of social anxiety is common among people who suffer from acne. Since most people view the skin as a visual indication of a person's physical well-being and hygiene, blemishes can often be perceived quite negatively. People can interpret the acne as signs of poor hygiene or physical health, as well as being possible signs of unhealthy dietary choices. Some people to slowly avoid people with acne, especially in communities or groups where physical attractiveness and “sameness” are critical to social survival, a situation found in a typical high school campus. This detachment, along with the acne patient's own perception – one that is all too often affected by outside influences – can result in social withdrawal. The acne sufferer's withdrawal and sense of being socially unacceptable can even worsen and lead to an onset of social anxiety in some cases.

Another potential problem brought about by acne is status anxiety. As previously stated, some communities embrace a culture of “sameness” that causes members to subconsciously ostracize those who are perceived to be “different.” While extreme in interpretation, people with acne are often seen to be among those who are “different.” But for the popular, high-ranking members of society, any sign of skin imperfection can even cause status anxiety. Modern society often puts pressure on people to either retain their status or improve it, which is among the leading causes of stress and anxiety in people. This pressure is an underlying force behind social interactions with one's perceived peers and superiors, but can come into the foreground with the onset of acne. As acne becomes manifest, concern over one's physical appearance as a factor in one's social standing grows. Once a certain point, which is different for each person, has been reached, status anxiety sets in as the person becomes increasingly worried about how the “infection” will affect his status within his social circle.

Perhaps among the more drastic effects of acne on the human psyche would be depression, though this is arguably more like a side effect of the previously mentioned issues. Typically, depression makes itself manifest if the acne has been prevalent for a prolonged period. As the social isolation continues, the patient also loses more and more confidence in his social skills and standing. This social anxiety, combined with worries over the perceived decline in his standing among his peers, can often make the situation seem hopeless for a person. The state of depression, which may only be perception and not an accurate reflection of the situation, can have dangerous consequences on a person's mental health. The possible psychological fallout caused by prolonged depression can easily outlast even the worst acne outbreak, with the possibility of becoming worse if the patient develops acne again later in life.

The potential psychological fallout caused by acne should be a major concern for anyone who is fighting acne. As such, acne should be taken seriously and treated properly from the start. If over the counter medications are failing to alleviate the problem, then consult a professional for advice. Be sure to follow the instructions given for the acne medication, whether this is over-the-counter or prescribed, to minimize the chances of side effects occurring. While prescription acne treatments and acne scar removal surgery might seem expensive, they can prove to be worthwhile long-term investments when compared with the costs of therapy and anti-depressants.

Sweat-free ways to get rid of extra pounds

Millions of people around the world are now engaged in a very personal struggle, a fight that will require from them every ounce of determination and will power. This conflict is called the “Battle of the Bulge.”

Quite literally, the bulge --- or excess body fat is now considered a very real enemy, not just by fitness buffs but by ordinary people who have been enlightened about the potential dangers of being extremely overweight.

Obesity and being overweight are now serious health concerns that now being given much attention by national and international health organizations. Using the Body-Mass Index (BMI) and the Waist Circumference Measurement (WCM) as the basic parameters for assessing weight-related health risks, more and more doctors, nutritionist-dietitians, and other health professionals are waging a campaign to educate the public about the benefits of getting rid of excess body fat and attaining the best possible weight according to accepted standards.

On a more positive note, the growing awareness about the need to lose weight and control obesity has led to the growth in the fitness and health industry. Various types of gyms and health shops have sprung up to offer people a multitude of methods and routines to regain their health. Some of the common exercise routines promoted by fitness gurus include anaerobic weight training, aerobics, pilates, yoga, core training ball method, and tae-bo. These fitness exercises are supposed to help one to lose weight while improving cardio-vascular performance, body coordination, and over-all health. Many have actually attested to the effectiveness of these workouts.

But not all can perform the movements required in the gym. People with certain physical impairments can also perform exercise routines albeit at a very limited range of motion. It is also true that many people cannot sustain the interest or motivation needed to complete an exercise program or repeatedly go to the gym to break out a sweat. Others may have the motivation to regularly workout but simply have no time due to busy work schedules and other demands at home.

For these reasons, the weight loss pill has become a very attractive and easy alternative to a gym membership or a strict workout routine. For some, popping a pill is clearly the easier road to take to lose weight compared to actually moving one's body to the point of exhaustion.

How does a weight loss pill actually work?

The common weight loss pill is actually loaded up with fiber husks. The fiber expands in the stomach and supposedly produces a “full stomach” feeling. With a feeling of having a full stomach, the user of the pill also reduces food intake. Another weight loss diet pill contains traces of ephedrine, a narcotic that reduces appetite. The unregulated, mass market version of this drug called “Bangkok pills” had been popular during the late 90s for its fast effects. However, since the said drug that was manufactured and imported from Thailand was clearly unregulated, its safety could not be guaranteed.

With all fitness fads and different pills out in the market, one of the most frequently ignored strategy that could even take the place of the best weight loss pill is to simply control one's eating. Those who go on crash diets always find themselves eating more after giving up on their eating plan. The harsh diets they pursue leave them with a sense of having been deprived of good food. But if one only sticks to the simple strategy of eating just the right amount, coupled with reduction of fatty foods from the everyday meals --- a person can already see good results. It is not advisable to endure starvation just to shed off some pounds. Proper, sensible eating habits must be imbibed together with regular exercise.

The use of a weight loss pill may still be a viable alternative provided that it is used with the approval and supervision of a medical professional. Indeed, the arsenal that can be used in the “Battle of the Bulge” can range from a regular physical training regimen, to dieting, to the use of medication that helps you lose weight. The key is to do everything in moderation and to remain focused on the health benefits of these ways to lose weight. For the overweight and people struggling with obesity, it would be very helpful to internalize that for every pound they lose, they are gaining back their health --- and that's surely a good better deal.

Why you should take up a physical hobby

The working day is getting gradually longer and more of us are forced to work a greater number of days in the week In fact, it is not uncommon to finish work late and then continue work at home. You should try to avoid this situation if possible. Draw a line between your working life and your home life and only work late or from home when it is absolutely necessary.

The stress of longer days and longer weeks means that people not only have less time to unwind but that we also suffer from stress, depression and other illnesses more often. Taking up a physical hobby or pastime is a great way to combat illness and wind down after or prepare for work. Make a little time in your schedule on a regular basis to do some exercise.

It is recommended that you exercise every day or two and if possible you should stick to this. A daily routine is the easiest to adopt, although it isn’t always feasible to spend a certain amount of time every single day exercising. However, even half an hour a day can really benefit your physical and your mental health.

Exercise helps to burn off energy as well as fat and by doing so, it can help prevent heart disease and create chemicals in our bodies that are absolutely vital to a healthy life. Similarly, it can reduce stress and depression so will benefit more than your physical well-being.

Walking and jogging are among two of the easiest, most affordable exercise regimens you could try. Apart from some very basic equipment for jogging, and even less for walking, you won’t have to pay a penny. Try and walk or run for half an hour every day and if you don’t find you have the time then try walking to or from work or get off the bus a stop earlier than normal. Even most gym memberships can be found for a cost no more than what one would pay for a coffee every morning. Overall a daily work out is a great way to improve health and lower stress from day to day.

Be in the zone with the right food plan

It is a fact that exercise is an important factor for weight-loss. Exercise combined with proper food regimens may help individuals who want to lose significant amounts of weight. There is no shortage of advice when it comes to this issue. Several books, magazines, and Internet sites suggest different aids for weight-loss. Some may work, some may not. Unfortunately, many diets are hard to sustain because some of these food regimens take away certain foods, making people who want to lose weight feeling deprived and hungry. Some food regimens are often temporary, something that will be endured for awhile and stopped after some time. Because of this, any lost weight may return quickly. However, there is one way of eating food that is preferred by many individuals who want to lose excess weight. It is called the Zone diet. A kind of eating routine that does not prohibit any foods, but reduce foods that are high in fat and carbohydrates like rice, starches, and pasta. This kind of eating regimen simply consumes all nutrients but in small servings.

The basis of the Zone diet is that if an individual consumes the right amount of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, they will significantly improve their health. This food regimen includes calories in 40:30:30 proportions that contain carbohydrates, protein, and fat respectively. This means one's food consumption should consists of 40% carbohydrates, 30% protein, and 30% favorable fats on a daily meal. It is said that this food intake plan manages the insulin levels in the body which may lead to clear mind, high, energy levels, and elevated moods. The founder of this eating plan, PhD Barry Sears claims that this food regimen, explains that excess insulin, a hormone helps control the blood levels makes people gain weight. “The American public is overweight due to a high intake of carbohydrates, and that this style of eating causes an overproduction of insulin. The solution is to eat a lower carbohydrate, higher protein, and moderate fat to balance these hormones within the preferred zone.” Sears added. The Zone diet regulates the blood sugar levels by balancing insulin levels therefore burning body fat more efficiently that may promote weight-loss.

Other advantages of the Zone Diet meal:

One does not feel deprived or have the craving for high cholesterol, high fat foods.

Eating all kinds of food is allowed to be consumed moderately.

It encourages consumption of three healthy, freshly prepared gourmet meals throughout the day.

It makes the eating habits simple by providing some tips.

It enables individuals to learn to stay fit without starving oneself.

This food regimen is actually not bad compared to some of the low calorie food plans that are in the market. But like any food intake routines, the Zone diet does have its weaknesses, because some of the recipes are often full of nutritional information. Another problem that can be encountered with this eating plan, is that it suggests unhealthy food combinations like beer and cottage cheese in a single meal. Individuals who want to engage in this kind of food regimen should seek the approval of nutritionists and other health professionals. They may devise an eating program that soothes one's health needs.

Why detox is so vital

Put simply, an occasional detox works because it gives your body a break. By channelling the body's energies away from dealing with meals and snacks that are difficult to digest and metabolise, and which play havoc with blood sugar, you can free up energy for regeneration and cleansing. A detoxification regime increases your intake of foods and drinks that serve our bodies well as building blocks. A detoxification plan provides protective antioxidants and simultaneously cuts out those habits that rob you of nutrients and optimal health.

Following a detoxification diet is critical to good health because our bodies are constantly bombarded with toxicity in our everyday lives. Most people can't avoid everyday pollutants altogether, but they can take steps to protect their health using a healing diet. Once environmental illness is diagnosed, the logical first step to take is removing the offending toxins from a person's environment and begin body detoxification. Only then can healing begin. Detoxification is the key to getting better.

A detoxification plan doesn't have to be completely restrictive and boring - actually, it should be fun and tasty! The better the food tastes, the more likely you are to stick to your plan. The definition of a detox diet is pretty simple - remove the foods and ingredients that are causing problems with your health. By removing the offending foods, you allow your body to heal, release built-up congestion and really thrive. Focus on simple, fresh foods and you will have a much easier time detoxifying your diet.

Taking Detox Teas!

As pollutants find their way from our air, food and water into the tissues of our bodies, they tend to take a heavy toll and can interfere with the normal functions of the organ systems. As a result, we are often left feeling swollen, tired, heavy or even "backed up”.

One of the best method of starting to detoxify your body is to start taking herbal detox teas. Detox Tea is a gentle way of combating this condition as it helps the body to clean itself out by aiding the two primary filtering mechanisms, the liver and the kidneys.

Zoomed pearly whites

Zoom Teeth Whitening promises to lighten discolored teeth by removing stains effectively with its whitening gel blasted with laser light. The whitening gel is made with hydrogen peroxide, a common bleaching agent. It is guaranteed safe since most teeth whitening procedures use it as bleach. The process takes a short time with a teeth cleaning and 45-minute bleaching session. The system works when the laser blasts light to activate the gel. Due to this, the oxygen penetrates the tooth enamel and the dentin to lighten the teeth and remove the stains. With the Zoom laser light, teeth can whiten for as much as eight shades more than non-laser activated whitening systems.

The procedure promises no or minimal discomfort. People with sensitive teeth though, would do better to fortify their teeth by using flouride-enriched toothpaste before and after the treatment. Individuals with difficulty in restraining gag reflexes might have a bit of difficulty due to the fact that the mouth has to be kept open while undergoing the procedure. Minimal heat from the light would be used so any slight tingling is to be expected. Otherwise, patients can usually enjoy TV or music when undergoing treatment to minimize anxiety. Zoom Tooth Whitening results are long-lasting. Undergoing the treatment entitles patients to a whitening gel for maintenance and regular touch-ups. However, the tasks of maintaining good oral hygiene habits and avoiding foods that cause staining would do much to keep results fresher and longer.

Researches show that more people are availing of teeth whitening procedures and the Zoom Whitening has proven itself to be one of the most effective. Almost anyone can undergo Zoom treatment, but results can vary depending on the extent of staining. Darkly stained teeth understandably need more than one session to lighten to a presentable shade. Dental specialists agree that people with yellowed teeth are the best candidates for single-session Zoom treatments. Prospective candidates are encouraged to undergo thorough dental examination with shade assessment to determine the probable effect of the treatment to their teeth. Though whitening is considered as a cosmetic process, it is not advised for children 12 years old and below. Lactating and pregnant women are also not allowed to undergo Zoom for safety concerns. Hence, it is important to supply the dentist or dental specialist with correct information to ensure a brighter smile and good health.

Will the democrats be able to reverse the online gambling ban

Many people were hoping that if the Democrats won control of Congress they would reverse the online gambling ban, but experts doubt they will even try or that if they do that the will be successful.

Once the bill was passed and signed into law by the president, it became much harder to reverse the law.

The democrats would need to bring up the law and get it to a vote, then after the vote passed it needs to go to the president for his signature. The problem with this is that the current president is the one who signed the bill into law in the first place.

Another problem is because the gambling ban was attached to another bill, it means that to reverse the law the entire bill needs to be reversed, but the other part of the bill is for an increase in port security, so any congressmen who recommends reversing this law, will be going on record as trying to reverse the increase in port security.

Because of this trying to get the law reversed could ruin a congressman’s chances of ever getting elected to public office again for the rest of their lives.

It is more likely that it will have to wait till the end of George Bushes term in office and then get an amendment to the law that reverses only gambling ban part of the law.

So if you are on Online Gambling enthusiast and you were hoping that after the election the online gambling ban would just disappear I am sorry to say you were mistaken and that you are going to have to wait a little longer, but that does not mean you need to sit quietly by.

The key is to make sure that you are heard, write letters to congressmen, and attend protest rallies anything that will keep this issue in the front of the minds of the politicians so they know that just as the Republicans lost the house so can they.

The republicans used the online gambling ban to try to gain votes for them in the last weeks before the election, but it backfired on them and lost them more votes then it brought in.

Hopefully the Democrats will learn from the mistakes of the Republicans and will understand that banning something never works, and that it is only thru regulating the online gambling industry that will ensure that it is safe and honest to play and that no underage children manage to play.

Other wise I am sure that the Democrats will also see the wrath of the American voters when it comes time for the next elections.

The American people are tired of having the government controlling every aspect of their lives and I think this election may have made their point for them.

So if the question is will they try to reverse the law I am sure they will try, but how successful they will be is still up in the air, and no one can really know what the outcome will be.

Cheap generic drugs or expensive branded ones

When someone is sick, the basic response in today's world is to medicate. However, in today's world, whenever a consumer is out to get something (even something that's badly needed), the first inclination is to go with what's the most economical option. A person's health can therefore be a touchy subject in this regard, with both the well-being and the financial situation of the patient being thrown into the pot for consideration. Granted, there are cheap generic drugs available on the market that are lower in cost than their branded, trademarked counterparts. There is, however, the lingering question of whether or not price dictates quality. As with most other things, there are both positive and negative points to both sides, with the decision usually falling squarely on the shoulders of the person deciding.

Cheap generic drugs, provided they're made by reputable pharmaceutical companies, have the same exact ingredients as their branded counterparts. The core ingredients, the compounds in the medication that make it work and fix problems in the body, are the same both both cheap generic drugs and the more expensive, brand-named ones. There are typically very few differences between the two. For example, in a number of skin care treatments, the active ingredients are of a lower concentration in the generic ones than their prescription or branded counterparts. In most cases, however, the only real difference between the two would be the packaging. A number of cheap generic drugs are made by the same pharmaceutical companies that sell the trademarked medications.

The appearance of generics differs from branded ones primarily due to trademark laws. In some cases, any non-essential ingredients in the medication can also differ, but these do not have any impact on the effectiveness of the drugs. Local regulations and marketing needs may also affect how a generic drug is produced, with a certain medication being sold as a pill in one country, but as a tablet in another. However, in most cases, a trademarked or branded drug will retain its form regardless of what country it is marketed in. The appearance is also retained, mainly because this aspect of it is trademarked, with most customers being familiar with both name and design.

Cheap generic drugs are not designed to be any less effective than their branded counterparts. There are some cases where the active ingredient is in a lower concentration, but this usually occurs if the generic version is over-the-counter, while the branded one is available only by prescription. They aren't less effective and they don't take longer to work than the branded ones.

However, one thing that must be kept in mind is that not all branded medications have a generic counterpart. Some medications only come in the branded form, and these tend to be very expensive. Of course, in situations where this is the case, the expense usually comes from the fact that the patient is likely to have no other choice. A medical professional like a doctor or pharmacist is likely to have a better idea of which medications have a generic counterpart, if the patient's finances aren't up to purchasing a branded drug. In reality, the differences between the two tend to be superficial and, for the purposes of fixing a problem, one is just as good as the other.

Guide to eye surgery

We all desire to have a perfect vision. However with growing age or any unfortunate mis-happening an individual’s vision may get distorted. But today science has blessed mankind with several wonderful techniques to rectify the faulty vision.

1. Flap Procedure treatments - are those where the surgeon removes the flap in the cornea to have an access to the tissue underneath. Some of the well known Flap treatments are as follows-

· LASIK refractive eye surgery is quite a commendable eye surgery these days. The term LASIK stands for ‘laser in situ keratomileusis’ surgery. This treatment is basically meant to treat nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia) and astigmatism (misshapen cornea). LASIK provides a correct vision through the use of a laser by reshaping the cornea and changing its focusing power. LASIK usually takes less than one minute per eye. In USA LASIK surgeries have been performed since 1993.

· Contemporary technique of LASEK or Laser Epithelial Keratoileusis surgery is also widely in use nowadays. LASEK is akin to LASIK refractive eye surgery. But unlike LASIK, in LASEK the surgeon cuts a flap in the epithelium only instead of through the epithelium and part of the stroma. After this the surgeon loosens the edges of the flap with the help of alcohol. The cases that are too sensitive to be treated by LASIK i. e. where people have thin or flat corneas are operated under the LASEK. Though LASEK is quite beneficial it has few shortcomings over LASIK. For instance the after LASEK surgery the patient feels uncomfortable for a long time and in comparison to LASIK, LASEK takes more time to heal.

· Epi-LASIK surgery is also a form of LASEK where the flap is removed only at the epithelium without the use of any blade or alcohol. In Epi-LASIK the surgeon makes use of a separator, epikeratome that creates an epithelial sheet. Since there is no alcohol used in this entire process, the patient feels less pain in this surgery and heals relatively faster.

· ALK or the Automated Lamellar Keratoplasty surgery is meant to treat the problem of nearsightedness and mild farsightedness. In ALK firstly the surgeon cuts a flap in the stroma. Then with the use of a microkeratome he removes the material under the flap. This removal is not done in case ALK is taken up to treat far-sightedness. Usually it takes less than an hour to do the ALK eye surgery.

2. Photoablation Technique - this requires the use of ultraviolet radiation to remove the eye tissues. Photoablation is basically the step that follows LASIK and LASEK surgeries.

· PRK or Photorefractive Keratectomy is a surgery that mainly treats nearsightedness, mild farsightedness and astigmatism. Here the surgeon makes the use of an excimer laser to remove the tissue from the surface of the cornea. The tissue ablation is taken up to give a new shape and minimize the vision problem. PRK is not a lengthy procedure. It usually takes less than one minute per eye.

Lower back pain symptoms and remedies

Pain or discomfort in the lower portion of our back and the spinal column is a common phenomenon and can be largely attributed to our changing lifestyles. Wrong posture or inadequate exercise is most often the cause of the pain in the lower spinal column. The treatment of such a pain can vary from a simple over the counter medicine to surgery depending on the severity and the cause.

The pain is generally felt in the lumbar and the sacral region and can also affect other areas. A sprain in the muscles or the ligaments constituting the lower portion of the spine can be the most common cause of backache. Some of the other problems that involve pain in the lower back are disc degeneration due to arthritis or ageing, spondylitis, infections and tumors.

In most of the cases the pain is localized in the lower back and vanishes after some time. However, it may even extend to the buttock or the leg on the affected side. In cases wherein the pain is persistent and increases with time or results in weakness in the foot or loss of bladder control - proper medical check up becomes essential.

In some cases stiffness or persistent pain around the spine can disturb your sleep resulting in further problems like tiredness. Such problems can be rectified by the used of pillows designed to maintain our body posture and thus ensure proper sleep. The use of the wrong type of mattresses can also affect the body posture and result in back pain.

How to lose weight keep it off

How to lose weight and keep it off can be an elusive goal, especially if you have been using crash diets which deprive the body of vital nutrient, and make it crave more food when you come off the diet. It is not that hard to lose weight, but sustained weight loss needs a well thought out plan.. If you need to know how to lose weight and keep it off, here are some important tips.

Idea-1

The concept of a diet is really one that we need to move beyond. Although diets can help people achieve short term goals, there is usually a reaction afterwards. Sustained weight loss needs a permanent, consistent change of lifestyle! To lose weight safely and consistently you need to be burning off more calories than you are taking in. You can achieve this by dieting, or by exercise, but a combined attack on two fronts will usually produce the best result.

Idea-2

Practice a sport or leisure activity which keeps you active. Or maybe it doesn't have to be strictly a sport, but take up some kind of active pastime. Working out at a gym will do perfectly well, if you can fit it in to your daily routine. Make sure you choose something you can sustain, because it is consistency which brings results.

Idea-3

Get your body trained to burn fat. Losing weight purely by dieting is difficult, because the body adjusts to the lower number of calories by storing more fat. There is always this unavoidable aspect of self defeat when you try to lose weight by diet alone. If you exercise as part of your weight loss program, you are training your body to burn fat, and not to store ever greater amounts of it.

Idea-4

Work your weight loss program into a routine. You need to get your body used to expecting both the diet and exercise programs which you are using. You will then arrive at a place where you do what needs to be done without even thinking about it. Formed habits are your greatest asset in your quest to achieve consistency.

How to lose weight and keep it off is something which can be approached scientifically, and if you set up the right causes, the effects will follow, and it will get easier as you go along. Click the links below to discover some useful hints and resources.
