Bring home memories with safari photos

Any tourist knows that one of the more important parts of any trip is to bring back tangible memories in forms of souvenirs, tokens and photos. Well, among all these photos can evoke more memories since it lets you see the actual, present images while you were there.

In this article, we have prepared four tips to help you get the most from your African safari photos.

Know the locations of wonder

Too many of amateur photographers don't typically have enough knowledge on the perfect locations for safari photographs. Well, this time you will know some of them. The prime locations are Kruger National Park (South Africa), Masai Mara (Kenya), Moremi (Botswana), Serengeti (Tanzania) and Etosha (Namibia).

Bring the proper equipments

You may not have the talent for photography yet with the right equipments and devices, you are sure to bring out the best from even the worst photos you have taken.

Your best buddy for safari photos is the digital camera as it provides you countless advantages that you may never have from other camera units.

Be conscious of the composition

Most safari photos are spoiled because they do not have the right subjects in them or the subjects were not thoroughly and properly positioned in the image. You have more control on the composition using positioning principles. Make the most out of the latter though.

The main focus of the composition is how you frame your subjects.

When you choose the composition of the safari photos, you have to have quick decisions, as wild animals dont normally stay for long in single locations. Be extra careful of your movements as well to avoid distracting their attention.

And never forget…be patient

We have no control over the animals that pass our sights. They move at their own phase and at their own time. They simply behave in manners that they naturally do so you cant obviously expect them to move as you want. Be patient in waiting for subjects to come by. And once they do, use all your advantage to capture them in photos. Remember, the most beautiful safari photos are those that depict unusually beautiful movements.

You may not control luck, and that's for a fact. Luck or opportunity is one thing that determines the beauty if action is to be captured in photos. If you are patient, nature may help you see the marvel in each wildlife scene - a chase of preys and predators, lion clubs at play and solitary trees that reserves excellent elegance.

The most romantic hotel in the south pacific has to be the wadigi island resort in fiji

The most romantic hotel in the South Pacific has to be the Wadigi Island Resort in Fiji. If we were to make a list of the most romantic getaways we have enjoyed then the two most romantic vacations have both been in Fiji, but the Wadigi Island Resort was quite exceptional.

When my husband and I planned our wedding we decided to look for the most romantic affordable honeymoon ideas, but the more we looked at the Wadigi Island Resort, the more we knew, that never mind the cost it just looked the most romantic hotel never mind in the South pacific, but almost anywhere!!

Everyone wants an exotic honeymoon vacation, and Julian and I were lucky enough to be able to afford the Wadigi Island Resort, but having said that we only discovered it from a business acquaintance who thought it would be a great idea to tell us of his most romantic honeymoon ideas in the South pacific.

So think about this, Wadigi Island is hidden in the Mamanuca Islands, but it is just a 10 minute helicopter flight from Nadi Airport.

It is a tiny resort with only three deluxe suites, right on the edge of a cliff, with just the most incredible views.

We had two gourmet chefs, a hostess, maid, and the boat captain who appeared to be completely at our beck and call, so it won’t be a surprise to learn that the food was just gourmet, and the surroundings private and pristine.

To return to the food for a moment, when you are on your honeymoon, you want the best of the best, and when it comes to the food, then that is what you get, all totally personalized, fresh, quite beautifully presented, and you can pretty well choose where you want it served to you. I haven’t mentioned the drinks service either, our hostess prepared what we wanted when we wanted it, and the wines we were served at dinner, or lunch, were the best.

Mexican auto insurance - problems experienced by mexico motorists

Mexican Insurance Store has issued a report on the top legal and insurance related problems experienced while driving on vacation in Mexico. Unlike the law in the U. S., in Mexico the assumption of guilt prevails over the assumption of innocence. The penalties for not having insurance while traveling in Mexico can be severe.

Common Mexican Insurance Problems:

1. Not Having Mexican Auto Insurance

U. S. and Canadian auto insurance is NOT recognized in Mexico. Vacationers that don't have auto insurance in Mexico and have an accident may spend many hours or days in jail and have their vehicle confiscated.

2. Not Having Emergency Medical Assistance

Mexico can be a dangerous place to be without emergency medical assistance. Most U. S. health insurance is not valid in Mexico.

3. Buying Auto Insurance with Emergency Medical Assistance that is NOT Valid in Rural Areas.

Travelers need to read the fine print in “emergency medical assistance options”. In order to save money, insurance companies limit their coverage to major cities of Mexico. Services are provided by third parties sub-contracted with the insurance company. It is important to watch for this because most of Mexico is rural and some insurance policies say they cover it, which is accurate. The broker should tell you that in rural areas, the policy actually reads, “we will do the best we can”.

4. Emergency Medical & Travel Assistance with a monetary limit

This is another area where the fine print can not be overlooked. Most policies have a low monetary limit or do not cover pre-existing conditions. Evacuation by air or land can be expensive and is not included in many policies. Costs can reach $100,000 per patient.

5. Not Having Assistance Services for Friends and Family

Don’t forget to get coverage for your traveling companions. Ask whether there are restrictions such as up to 4 passengers.

About MexicanInsuranceStore. com:

Mexican Insurance Store offers package's that include insurance policies needed while traveling in Mexico.

All Auto Insurance Plans should include:

• Emergency Medical Assistance good in cities and rural areas.

• Emergency Medical & Travel Assistance good for the entire family with no monetary limit and guaranteed hospital admittance.

• A minimum US $20,000 in Legal Assistance & Bail Bond.

Looking for a peaceful getaway? Shasta Lake is one place that you may never want to leave. Located in the heart of Northern California, this lake is more than just your average day trip. With a plethora of things to do, it is no wonder why thousands of visitors are continuously coming back to this tranquil Californian gem.

The beauty of Shasta Lake is that it is regarded as one of the most peaceful locations in California. Nestled between stunning mountaintops and crystal clear water - this lake proves to be a serene landmark. Additionally, there is an array of activities to choose from, regardless of how great the weather is. Looking for a peaceful way to enjoy your days? From fishing to tours and trails - you will never find yourself bored if you choose to experience the serene atmosphere. Far too often we find ourselves stuck at home when the temperature drops to below zero. As a result, we become restless, depressed, and sick of the everyday schedule. For years Shasta Lake has provided vacationers with a fresh break from the glacial structures that surround our lives. Perhaps this year it is time for you to do the same. Buy a plane ticket, book a room, and experience what everyone is talking about. Shasta Lake will without a doubt impress you so much that you’ll be coming back next year.

Mexican living survival tip 11 restaurants

Eating out is a source of pleasure and cheap entertainment in Mexico in general and in Guanajuato in particular. We are always being asked where we recommend visitors eat. The difficulty in answering this question is that for $12.00 USD, you would be able to feed four adults. Americans think that is a cheap to feed one adult. Visiting gringos find it incredible that you can get a good meal in this city for under $4.00.

Most local restaurants in Guanajuato will have something called, El Menu del Dнa, or The Meal of the Day. This will consist, usually, of something from the regular menu that is served for a really cheap price. You get a choice of two soups, vegetable, starch, and meat. Sometimes the drink and dessert is included.

The portions are not anywhere the size of potions in the U. S. but the meal is filling and will satisfy you. One or two restaurants will serve something out-of-the-ordinary for their regular customers. We frequent one place that will give us the “heads up” when they plan to serve liver (yes, we love liver!). It is not on their regular menu.

In some of the upper-range restaurants in the El Jardin area, their Meal of the Day can be very elegant with American-sized portions. These will be more expensive, around $6.50 per person, but is worth it every now and then. Some of these restaurants have bilingual waiters who can speak a bit of English.

We rarely eat out for any meal other than La Cena (the mid-day meal). We usually take advantage of the meal of the day. Sometimes we order from the menu. So, here are our suggestions of where you can eat, whether you are a visitor or expat in Guanajuato:

Truco 7 – When we get a hankering for a good steak, we eat here. We have expat pals who refuse to believe that you can get a good steak anywhere in Mexico. We take exception to that gross misstatement. Truco 7 is a trendily-decorated place that is well worth the time and effort to visit. It is off the beaten path and until you get to know Guanajuato you can ask anyone, “їDуnde estб Truco Siete?” and they will more than likely escort you there personally. We normally choose bistec y papas or steak and fries which is accompanied by a small salad, a little guacamole, and bolillos (a French-bread type roll). It is absolutely delicious.

Tapatio – This is located across the street from the enormous staircase that leads up to the main building of the University of Guanajuato. This is the place of choice to go for The Meal of the Day. The service is decent but not exceptional. However, it is immensely popular with Mexicans because of the food. You might be able to strike up a conversation or two with your fellow diners if you want. They have an excellent dish called Milanesa de pollo o res. This a piece of chicken breast (or beef) that is pounded into oblivion, resulting in an almost wafer-thin piece of meat. It is then lightly breaded and fried. It is usually served with fries, guacamole, and a small collection of freshly cut vegetables. It is the breading and seasoning of Milanesa that makes it very good.

Casa Valadez – This is owned by a very old family here in Guanajuato. My wife used to teach English to one of the members of this family. Casa Valadez is probably the closest thing in this town resembling an international restaurant. It has a bilingual menu and serves some American dishes along with some of the traditional Mexican dishes. If you get it into your head that you want an exceptional hamburger, then you have to eat here. In addition, the service is outstanding! They treat you like they simply adore you and that you made their day for stopping by. They also serve what I think is the best food in town. I have yet to find an exception. The presentation makes you wonder if they have Wolfgang Puck in the back. It is a nice place all around and even has someone who plays the piano during the afternoon meal. Our favorite “off-the-menu” dish is a regional dish called Enchilada Mineras.

No place else serves such an exceptional plate of Enchiladas Mineras. If you are in the mood to be pampered and fussed over, go here—even for a hamburger.

Top 10 safety tips for cape town visitors

Don’t let the bad press about South African crime put you off visiting the beautiful city of Cape Town! Follow these simple safety guidelines and look forward to a fun, incident-free vacation in one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations.

1.Don’t walk around late at night unless you keep to well-lit places like the Waterfront and Camps Bay. Rather take a (decent) taxi than risk being mugged in a dark side street after nightfall.

2.Don’t accept help from a stranger at an ATM when drawing cash.

3.Stay in a group when out at night.

4.Don’t ‘wave’ your bag, camera or cell phone around while walking in the city, day or night. This attracts undesirable attention. Avoid keeping anything of value in back pockets or open backpack compartments.

5.Keep the windows up and the car doors locked when driving around the city.

6.When driving, discourage ‘smash & grab’ theft by keeping bags, keys, cell phones or anything ‘tempting’ on the floor and not on the seats.

7.If you wish to visit a township, go with a reputable tour guide, not alone. It’s easy to get lost and some neighborhoods are less safe than others.

8.Fancy a train ride? Go on one with a blue ‘Biggsy’s Restaurant Car’, enjoying a cup of coffee or a yummy breakfast while watching Cape Town’s suburbs pass by the window. Unfortunately, despite the security staff on the trains, muggings and harassment are fairly frequent. Traveling in the restaurant car is a safer, more comfortable experience.

9.Don’t give cash to beggars. Rather make a donation to a registered local charity. Money gained through begging, unfortunately, is inevitably ill-spent. Giving out cash also makes you a candidate for being mugged once you have your wallet out.

10.If you are eating out or watching a movie, do not put your bags on the floor or hang them over the back of your chair. Keep them on your lap, to avoid becoming a victim of opportunistic bag-snatchers. These scoundrels have even been known to operate in churches!

Remember: Pickpockets and muggers are a sad fact of life the world over. Just be careful, and you’ll find Cape Town as friendly, safe and enjoyable as any busy cosmopolitan city in the world.

London hotels are located near more than two dozen museums

Your London hotel is near a famous museum. It's almost guaranteed, because London is home to scores of famous museums in a city that is renowned for its history and museums here contain many of the world’s incredible artifacts. They've made amends and returned many priceless antiquities to their countries of origin, but London museums are still known the world over for their incredible collections and exhibits. So it is only natural that visitors want to stay close to the array of museums that dot the London landscape. With the help of the Internet, visitors can even coordinate their hotel choice with their museum choices.

Attractions range from Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum to the lofty British Museum, home of the famed Egyptian Hall and some amazing European sculptors. For a more personal glimpse into the past, a visitor could try the Florence Nightingale Museum, Freud Museum, Sherlock Holmes Museum, or Jack the Ripper Walk, which traces the killer's deadly footsteps. The Victoria and Albert Museum is the jewel of the South Kensington area, which hosts a number of attractions and fine hotels. History buffs will treasure the National Army Museum, National Maritime Museum, and Natural History Museum.

If you like spooky old prisons, you've got the Clink Prison Museum, the Tower of London, and the London Dungeon to explore. The art connoisseur will certainly appreciate the Tate Britain Gallery, Tate Modern Gallery, Institute of Contemporary Arts, and the National Gallery. The Design Museum, Clockmaker's Museum, London Toy and Model Museum, and Bramah Museum of Tea and Coffee cater to specialized tastes.

Whatever your preference, there's a first-class London hotel within easy walking distance and numerous tube stations to get a visitor to more distant locations. New booking sites on the Internet allow you to search for a London hotel by neighborhood and proximity to various attractions. A helpful website offers maps, tube station locations, photos, and sightseeing tips to make the most of a trip to London without scouring guidebooks for information. Prices and rankings are important criteria, too, but there's nothing like the convenience of choosing a hotel by location. Your lodging is important, because it becomes a sanctuary for dinner and respite after a long day of exploring the past. In fact, many London hotels are virtual museums all by themselves, offering a glimpse into Victorian and Elizabethan England.

Don't stay too long in that lovely hotel room, because London nightlife beckons. Combine a trip to the West End theater district with a stop at the Theatre Museum near Covent Garden. The possibilities are endless, but your stay in London isn't. So choose a London hotel that allows you to make the most of your time, and keep track of the places you don't visit for your return trip.

Relocation apartments consideration with execution

:
Relocating can be one of the most troubled job as well as fun and adventure. If proper measures and To-do lists are made with due care, then it can be very satisfying. One of the most important thing while relocating is to look at your job profile and the better location of your stay where you can execute your business activities. Relocation always requires some initial investment so it is better to check about the finer details. As this job has made this happen, so proper planning should be done and with the management every possible aspect should be discussed on your relocation apartment.

Relocation means to start a hunt for new house and this takes good lot of time. So before finally moving to relocation apartments some basic knowledge about the price there will be salutary. You can find through internet regarding the hospitals, emergency services and parks closer by. If you have children then you can check out the local schools and also about different attractions as they are the one who feel the most after relocation.

Relocation also means that you need to carry your medical record, your warranties and your tax records. It is better to go for that locality from where your office is not too far from your relocation apartments. Many a times it has been seen that it is very tough for children to relocate. They are very much attached to their friends and find it very difficult to cope up. They should be given prior information regarding relocation. Preparation should start from the day you have got the news.

When all the planning is done with regard to your new relocation apartment, it is time for execution. For that, a reliable moving company should be hired. What happens many a times that we pile up things that are useless? In one section you should keep things that you will take with you, second one should be the one you want to donate to a charity shop and last one should be the one you want to dump. It is always wiser to buy a new couch than shifting that old one because it will cost more to shift.

Before hiring any moving companies two-three different companies should be checked. By doing this you can compare rates and also which one takes the risk if there is some damage done to the product. Taking these into consideration just hit the road to your ideal relocation apartments.

Panama outstanding eco-tourism

There are few places in the world where the eco-tourist can view the ecological wonders that result from the melding of two large continents and the molding of the land by the world’s two biggest oceans. There’s only one such place — Panama. It is no surprise that the respected Forbes Magazine cited Panama as the best eco-tourism destination for 2007.

Panama is the narrow isthmus that connects the Americas. That is easy enough to remember, but people tend to forget that Panama is also that fragile strip of land that separates the Pacific Ocean from the Atlantic Ocean (by way of the Caribbean Sea).

Nature and Wildlife

Off the waters of Panama, you can watch whales cavorting along the Golfo de Chiriqui, or snorkel among the colorful coral reefs on either ocean. Small as it is, there are over 1,500 islands in Panama, each with its own stretch of white-sand beaches. You have the chance to watch four species of sea turtle nesting on the country’s beaches and wetlands. Panama’s marine and aquatic life is so rich that they have evoked comparisons with the Galapagos Islands further south.

There are many national parks that you can visit for every ecological habitat you’d like to see. The mountains along the spine of Panama have their beguiling charms. You can hike through cloud-covered forests or swim in chilly mountain streams. If you feel adventurous enough, you can trek up Volcan Baru, the highest peak in Panama, and get a really unique experience: seeing, at the same time, the two largest oceans and the two largest continents at your feet.

Its jungles are among the least explored areas in the world. They offer a visual treat for the eco-tourist. In the country’s 500 rivers and 22,000 square kilometers of rain forest, there are 940 bird species and 125 animal species unique to Panama. If you’re lucky, you may get to see some of them.

What Else to Do

Panama offers you the colonial ruins and fortifications that once defended old Panama, Spain’s capital in the New World. You can check out the many fortresses along the Caribbean coast. Find time to attend the colorful festivals in the towns, where the Spanish legacy continues.

Dinner and a night on the town will make a good beginning or ending to your trip in the wilds. There are fine restaurants in Panama City to tickle every palate, quiet cafes overlooking the bay and the city, and nightclubs to while the night away.

Best Time to Go

It really depends on your plans. The peak tourist season corresponds with the dry season on the Pacific side, which is between mid-December and mid-April. The weather is mostly sunny in Panama City and places south of the Continental Divide during these months. On the Caribbean side to the north, the rains come all year-round. There is relatively less rain February to March and September to October.

If you want some serious hiking, trekking in the national parks, or taking in the beaches, the dry season between December and January may be the best time. But remember, that hotel prices and airfares will be higher during this period.

Planning Your Trip

Because of the ecological diversity in Panama, one gets tempted to spontaneous adventures. But it is good to make plans before you go to maximize your eco-tourism thrills. Some destinations are very popular and you will need reservations. Bocas de Toros is the country’s top destination. You need to reserve flights early if you wish to go to the islands of Comarca de Kuna Yala. There is only one carrier that flies to the archipelago.

A visit to remote Parque Nacional Darien would give you the best views of Nature in the tropics, but you will also need to book lodgings way in advance. The same arrangements are necessary for a visit to the Smithsonian Institution’s Tropical Research Institute on the Isla Barro Colorado.

Panama is an eclectic city that can accommodate any budget. There are many budget accommodations and inexpensive eating places. There are also five-star lodges with seascape views and charming B&B hideaways.

Discover the beautiful island of meganissi

Meganissi is a small picturesque island about 6km south east of Lefkada island. It is one of the smallest of the Ionian Islands, but it is also one of the most beautiful, making it an ideal choice for a relaxing villas holiday in Greece.

Meganissi is an island of about twenty square kilometres covered in lush vegetation – an area of outstanding natural beauty. There are three villages on the island, the villages of Vathy, Katomeri and Spartohori, and the three ports of Vathy (main ferry port), Atherino and Spilia.

Vathy is a pretty little fishing village with the main port for the island. Here you can catch a ferry across to the island of Lefkada. Vathy has several waterfront tavernas that are great for unwinding in whilst you watch the fishing boats come in. Near Vathy, work is being undertaken to restore the horse drawn olive press of Panoutsos.

The village of Katomeri is a welcoming little village with friendly tavernas to sip some Ouzo in! A road from Katomeri leads to the beautiful bays of Limonari and Elia. The beaches at Limonari and Elia are some of the most stunning on the island.

Spartohori is a beautiful little village filled with picturesque houses, perched up high on the cliffs above Spilia Bay, with wonderful views out across the sea. Spilia means cave in Greek, and the bay is said to take its name from the large unexplored ‘Cave of the Cyclops’.

The pace of life is slow on the island making it an ideal location to unwind. There are few cars on the island, and the life harks back to a bygone era. On many parts of the island you could well believe that you had been transported back in time to another world. The island is covered with old vineyards and olive groves that have been producing bountiful crops since the times of the ancient Greeks - it is well worth sampling the local wine and olive oil!

There are no big hotels on Meganissi, however there are several private villas on the island that are available to rent. A private villa close to the villages allows you to have the best of both worlds. You can walk in to the local taverna and relax with the locals, or unwind in privacy next to your own private pool. If you are thinking of a villa holiday in Greece, choose a villa on the island of Meganissi!

Tips for airline travel on your luxury travel vacation

Most travelers on luxury vacations will eventually, at some point, end up on a plane. For many, the experience of flying is a harrowing one and often seen as the downside of traveling anywhere. But flying does not have to be such a painful experience. Thanks to electronic ticketing, most of the once painful processes are a thing of the past. Lost or stolen paper tickets and long check-in waits, are no longer a necessary part of air travel. Here are some tips that will make your flying experience as smooth as possible by taking advantage of these progressive steps in travel technology.

Using an E Ticket

Whether you’re flying to board your cruise ship for your luxury world cruise or to end a guided tour, e-tickets are the new way to fly. An e-ticket is an electronic ticket storage note that is held on the airline’s computer. This means that all you need is a photo ID to board instead of a paper ticket. The e-ticket can't get lost, forgotten or stolen, and your travel plans can be changed without the need to print and receive a new ticket. This is usually the best and easiest way to travel aboard airlines. Always ask for an e-ticket if one is not offered. For the latest luxury world cruise deals go to amtcruises. com.

Online Check-In

You can simplify the airline check-in procedure during your luxury travel vacation by checking-in online. Although not all airlines offer this service, travelers should find out if it’s available and take advantage of it. You can check-in online at least 24 hours before your scheduled flight. There are a number of benefits to checking-in online. These advantages include the chance to select your preferred seat in advance, get your frequent flyer mileage added to your account and inform the airline how many bags you will be checking. Being able to do all of this before you arrive will save you time at the airport. Most of the time, you will be able to print your boarding pass. If not, write down all the information given to you at the end of the online check-in process. Plus, the airline will usually provide a special boarding pass lane for those who have already checked-in online. Get help planning your next luxury travel vacation at amtvacations. com/american-express-tours. html.

These new airline procedures were invented to consolidate the ticketing process. In the past, airline tickets were a huge hassle to both travel agents and travelers alike, the electronic or e-ticket system has eased the difficult process. Online check-ins have made obtaining your boarding pass simple, saving you time and the airlines money. These new protocols are making your luxury vacation much smoother. Hello from toronto - part 1- a first little driving tour -the city viewed through the eyes of first-time visitors

So my brother is in town, together with his wife and 2 friends from my little home town in Austria. It is everybody's first time in North America and their initiation to Toronto. Just to give you ideas of dimensions: Austria has a population of about 9 million and the country extends about 900 km from east to west while the Greater Toronto area nowadays probably has about 4 to 5 million people and Lake Ontario alone is over 300 km long. The first thing my visitors noticed was the difference in size: the size of the city, the size of the lake, the size of cars, the size of supermarkets, and even of refrigerators.

On Sunday we started off with a little driving tour of Toronto where I first took my visitors down to the lakefront by the historic Art Deco style R. C. Harris Filtration Plant. All of them love water and to have a lake as big as an ocean so close by fascinated them. After a leisurely drive on Queen Street through the quaint Beaches neighbourhood we parked the car close to the St. Lawrence Market and started our walk around.

Since my brother is a chef and always loves to purchase market-fresh food, I initially took him to the St. Lawrence Market which always has an antique sale on Sunday. The food market is actually closed on Sunday. We checked out the wares from old furniture to cameras to various knick-knacks.

Our exploration continued westwards along Front Street past historic 19th century houses and of course past the famous triangular-shaped Flatiron Building which has a mural on its west side. Approaching Yonge Street we walked past the Hockey Hall of Fame, a historic Beaux-Arts former bank building, the magnificent Royal York Hotel, built in 1929, once the largest hotel in the British Commonwealth.

One of the things that fascinated my visitors most was how old and new can coexist right next to each other: shiny skyscrapers are located right beside historic sandstone churches. Our walking tour continued past Union Station, Toronto's impressive central railway station, built between 1914 and 1927 as a joint construction project by the Canadian Pacific Railway and Grand Trunk Railway (now the Canadian National Railway). Its monumental scale, classical detail and rational, ordered planning were hallmarks of the style. The station is massive and takes up an entire block on Front Street between York Street and Bay Street. The Great Hall of the Station is 250 ft. long and 84 ft. wide.

Our walk continued further west on Front Street past the Convention Centre to the base of the CN Tower and the entrance to the Skydome, Toronto's multi-purpose stadium with a retractable roof, now called the Rogers Centre. We then snaked our way up through the Entertainment District to Queen Street where we admired Osgoode Hall, built in the 1830s, and now an oasis of green in the city. An ornate iron fence, built in 1867, renowned for its peculiar "cow gates," surrounds the property and its beautiful gardens. The cow gates in particular fascinated my visitors.

Our next stop was at New City Hall and Old City Hall, opened in 1899, which racked up construction costs of more than $2.5 million at the time which caused great controversy in those days. Continuing past the Bay Department Store on Queen we passed the Metropolitan United Church, an English style cathedral dating from 1872, whose churchyard was filled with people enjoying the warm day.

Once back in the car we drove through the U of T campus, my Alma Mater and we stopped briefly to check out Hart House and Kings College. Then we headed down to Chinatown at Spadina and Dundas and my visitors marvelled at this exotic, busy market area. Our last stop on the tour was Kensington Market, a lively little neighbourhood full of food and clothing stores and restaurants where we ended up picking up fresh vegetables, dry beans, and a variety of cheeses for some of the scrumptious meals to come. My brother, the chef, marvelled at the variety of food available here, combined with the inexpensive prices a food lover's dream.

We took our loot home where my husband was waiting for us with a big brunch to strengthen ourselves for attending a birthday party of one of my friends that had the motto of "let out your inner child". The party was unique in that it involved such time-honoured Toronto traditions as hitting a piсada while a bunch of adults were playing with water guns, chasing one another around the house with buckets of water dropping on the combatants from the second floor.

I think our visitors had a full day, from getting a first taste of Toronto, to participating in a rather eventful birthday party, their first impressions were very positive and they were looking forward to exploring more of this exciting city.

Big five animals in south africa

The term ‘Big Five’ originated among the hunters of a bygone era to describe not the largest of the animals that they hunted, but the most dangerous.

These are lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros. Every one of these animals has a reputation for pursuing its attacker with intent to kill. Perhaps the most persistent is the buffalo, which will ceaselessly pursue his aggressor, making hunting a life-or-death experience for the hunted and the hunter!

All of these mammals are to be found in South Africa, making this country one of the most popular locations for safari style holidays.

Indeed, South Africa has embraced this rich wildlife heritage and welcomes visitors from all around the world who come to experience close encounters with the magnificent beasts. Many of our game lodges offer the most luxurious accommodation and facilities available for ‘bush’ holidays in the world.

The Sabi Sands Game Reserve in the Mpumalanga province, for example, is arguably the most exclusive game reserve in the country. With no fences existing between the Kruger Park and Sabi Sands, the wildlife roams free between the two reserves. Leopards are the main attraction here, and these awesome creatures are so accustomed to humans that you can even follow them while hunting, in an off-road vehicle. All of the Big Five can be viewed at Sabi Sands.

Other well-known and excellent reserves around the country where one can view the Big Five in South Africa include the world-renowned Kruger Park in Mpumalanga and Limpopo Provinces, the Pilansberg Game Reserve in the North Western Province, the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park in the Northern Cape and the Hluhluwe Umfolozi Game Park in Kwa-Zulu Natal.

Visitors who are confined to the Cape Town area are often under the impression that they will be unable to view the Big Five. However there is a reserve only 90 minutes from the centre of Cape Town, Aquila, where one can view four of the Big Five. Self-drive or guided drive tours are available from Cape Town – even one day tours are possible, although you may well wish to stay overnight in the appealing accommodation set in 4500 hectares of pristine Karoo landscape. The terrain is varied – from mountains and valleys to wetlands – ideal for game viewing be it in a 4x4 safari vehicle, on horseback or even by quad-bike. Aquila is home to four of the Big Five animals: lion, buffalo, rhino and the rare Mountain Leopard. You may also spot and giraffe and hippo, not to mention herds of wildebeest, zebra, springbok and other bucks, plus baboon, jackal and the bat-eared fox.

What with the wetlands, you can expect a wealth of bird-life viewing to complete your safari experience – all so close to Cape Town!

Those who can travel as far as the Eastern Cape – a pleasant day’s drive along the beautiful Garden Route – can also view the Big Five and other species of game at the excellent Addo Elephant Park and Shamwari Game Reserve – both well-worth the visit for game lovers.

A safari holiday to South Africa is often considered incomplete without sightings of the Big Five. These days most people are content to take home photographs of the living animals rather than skins and hunting trophies. However there are legal hunting reserves for those who feel the need.
